![]() Soap Opera actor, John Reilly died on Saturday 9th January 2021 at the age of 84. John starred as Sean Doley on General Hospital for close to three decades, starting from 1984. He also played the role of Alistair Crane in Passions from 2005-2008. The actor made appearances in Sunset Beach, Dallas, and As the World Turns. Caitlin Reilly confirmed the news of his passing on her Instagram page two days ago with the words, “John Henry Matthew Reilly AKA Jack. The brightest light in the world has gone out. Imagine the best person in the world. Now imagine that person being your dad. I’m so grateful he was mine. I’m so grateful I got to love him. I’m so grateful I made it in time to hold him and say goodbye. I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do, but I know he’ll be with me. I love you forever Daddy.” The General Hospital official account also expressed their condolences with the tweet, “The entire General Hospital family is heartbroken to hear of John Reilly’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones. Rest in peace,” The Chicago-born actor started his acting career in the 1960s with small gigs on Gunsmoke. His big break came in 1974 when he took up the character of Dr. Dan Stewart in As the World Turns. Colleagues and numerous fans of the icon have taken to various platforms to express their condolences and recount their encounter with the actor. Finola Hughes posted on Twitter, “Darling #JohnReilly 1st day at GH a tall handsome man in a leather jacket sauntered towards me & welcomed me to the show, claimed me as a fellow ‘Irish’ & assured me he’d take care of me no matter what. A kind, true friend who loved his family above all else #ripJohnReilly” John Reilly is survived by his wife, Liz, and three daughters.
