Attacking midfielder Manuel Lanzini has asked for pardon and donated to the Newham food bank in East London after breaching covid-19 protocols during the Christmas holidays with Giovani Lo Celso, Erik Lamela, and Sergio Reguilon.
The player tweeted an apology that read, “I want to apologize for a bad mistake I made over Christmas and I take full responsibility for my actions. I know people have made difficult sacrifices to stay safe and I should be setting a better example.”
The player’s manager however believes that his players are being overburdened for little or no reason at all.
"Well, if you are going to take tough measures on players, then you might as well take on the Government people as well who have broken the rules because it's certainly not just football players who have done it,” the manager said.
He also added that a lot of people are throwing stones in glass houses at the moment as regards the situation. He acknowledged that everyone was aware of the protocols and it was no news that they have to be cautious.
He rounded up by saying, "But you've got to be careful. There are a lot of people out there who are claiming that things should be different and I think the players are doing a remarkable job to keep football going, keep them playing.
"Now and again, they will make mistakes, there's no doubt about that."
No doubt, the 27-year old Argentine had broken the government’s instruction which informed residents in Tier 4 regions not to meet up physically with those outside their family.
"I've been at West Ham a long time so I know what the community means to the Club and want to give back to a cause that matters to us all, our community, and fans” the player admitted further on social media.
David Moyes’ view of the situation was in light of the fans’ response to his player’s apology and steps to make things right. A lot of players were victims of breaking the protocols set in place and backlash from the public could not be escaped by any who was caught.
The West Ham coach just prayed the public to understand with the players as well.
