Mesut Ozil: Arsenal Midfielder agrees to join Fenerbahce
The Arsenal Midfielder, Mesut Ozil has finally broken the ice by agreeing to join the Turkish football club, Fenerbahce.
The 32-year old who has been excluded from playing since March 2020 has sat out the first half of the Premier and Europa League has decided to discontinue his contract with the gunners.
The player’s representative had been in talks with other clubs, specifically Fenerbahce and DC United, the decision to opt for the former was announce in the new year.
This development could be received with mixed feelings for the Gunners as Mike Arteta was rumored to have plans on featuring the Turkish Midfielder in consequent matches due to the club’s poor performance at the start of the season.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Arteta said. “I don't know what is going to happen. Obviously now he's free to negotiate with other clubs. We will discuss internally what the best situation for him is for the near future, obviously with the player and the agent too, and try to find the best solution for everyone.”
"Good for Mesut and his future, and good for the club. If that's the case, we will move forward. If that's not the case, the player will continue here." he added
While Ozil’s move out of Arsenal would relieve the club from the $350,000 weekly wages of the player, one cannot deny the difference he has made so far on the pitch.
In Ozil’s 184 league appearances, he scored 33 goals and gave 54 assists.
Ozil described the contract with Fenerbahce as a “dream move” and no doubt the club anticipates his arrival.
For Arsenal, the 7 years marathon with Ozil is at its end, while it was a good and memorable run, especially under the coaching of Arsene Wenger, it is time for a decision to be made.
On the 5th of January, Mesut tweeted a throwback photo of himself at Instabul, which is perhaps a hint of the player’s decision to go back to Turkey.
For more than half of the decade, Mesut brought the came to Arsenal Football Club, the football world can’t wait to enjoy his performance at Fenerbahce.
